themselves of meaningful work. Many other programs are for youth who
excel. The TRADEWORKS programs are for youth who have been ignored and
who need some support to create opportunities for themselves. It is particularly
important for such youth to receive hands on training in a supportive
environment to build their confidence and skills. They need an opportunity
to learn not only job skills but also life skills to secure and maintain
employment.
Who do we serve?
TRADEWORKS operates in the poorest postal code area in Canada and accepts
participants who have experienced significant challenges such as a lack
of role models, learning barriers and abuse issues. Our training programs
are focussed on providing opportunities to youth, while our job placement
program serves a cross section of age ranges in the community. Most importantly,
TRADEWORKS has afforded people an opportunity to regain hope and transform
their lives.
What Training Programs Do We Provide?
Introduction to Carpentry and Construction Participants are trained
in a strong array of skills, including framing and forming, basic plumbing
and electrical work, dry-walling, use of hand and power tools, as well
as an introduction to computers, and shop math. The program is six months
long and includes practicum placements to assist the students in attaining
practical "on the job" skills.
